It all started when...

I grew up in Duluth MN and moved to Minneapolis in 2012 when I met the man of my dreams, and threw all caution to the wind and jumped!  I left Duluth behind and with it, a salon I started myself and a full clientele, as well as my band and a big for Duluth, MN music career! Crazy? Maybe. But so worth it!

It was through the transition to this new city (small fish big pond), and into the role of a step mother and wife, that I have been able to really get clear on who I am and what I want to do and who I can best serve.

When I first moved here, I stopped playing music and stopped singing, and to be honest, I had a really hard time for a while. I couldn't connect with the people here as easily and I felt alone much of the time.  I hadn't been a parent to young children before and the learning curve of boundaries and unconditional kindness was and is still, quite tall. I started drinking a lot and stopped doing much of anything outside of the house, or even in the house. I worked as a manager for a corporate salon and barbershop where the owners were completely absent (in Canada, actually) and the stylists didn't treat each other very well. It turns out that I'm not very good at working for a company I don't believe in.

When I finally "hit bottom" in this situation, it was through doing yoga at the YMCA that I got a tiny glimpse of self reflection.  Really tiny.  I realized I didn't feel good.  I realized it was my body that hurt and nobody was going to change it if I didn't.  So I changed. I quit drinking.  I started doing more yoga.  I started meditating and cultivating peace.  I quit that fucking corporate job and rented a chair in a tiny salon where I only broke even for a couple months.  But I was in charge of my life again and I liked it.  I started a group on Meetup for women who play music so I could find women who I could play guitar with.  They showed up and it was really fun!

I have now opened another salon, called MN NAF! Salon, which means Minnesota Nice AF, and if you don't know what that means, maybe I should tell you it means Nice & Friendly.  This salon carries organic hair care, ammonia free color as well as essential oils and natural skin care.  We are next door to a yoga studio that I love because we can hear their mantras coming through the walls and bringing in even more love and light to the room. We have local art on the walls and all of our products are local.  To find out more, click here.

I'm also starting a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training in 2018 and will be sharing my journey with you as I grow in the Yoga world!

What I want to say is that I've learned that I love community.  I love supporting and lifting up women through art, hair, music, collaboration, and helping other women to find their voice and use it.
